Flipkart claims it has played a key role in making affordable smartphones accessible to millions of Indians. Consumers are looking to upgrade their smartphones regularly, resulting in growth in the premium smartphone category, a Flipkart spokesperson told Gadgets 360.
Earlier this year, Flipkart said this year’s festive season sales brought 50 percent growth in new customers. The company experienced 70 billion views across all product categories during the six-day Big Billion Days 2019 sale in September this year.
The smartphone segment itself saw the biggest festive season sale this year, according to the company. Mobile phone companies were able to grow as much as twice compared to last year’s festive season sale, Flipkart said.

With more people buying their first smartphone online, Flipkart and other online marketplaces tend to sell a lot more entry-level and budget smartphones. The growing distribution and delivery network makes it possible for online marketplaces to reach areas where they previously couldn’t.
After its first Big Billion Days sale this year, Flipkart had announced that it managed to sell over 100,000 units of over 20 different smartphone models. The company also claimed a 2.5x increase in customers using its bundled exchange offers during mobile phone purchases this year.
